Mary Agnes Wichman

Mary Agnes Wichman, 79 of Kansas City, MO and formerly of Kearney, NE, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the North Kansas City Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 2407 West 56th Street, Kearney. The Rev. Vivya Sagar Arikotla will officiate. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery, 4400 Avenue I. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Sunday at the church with a Prayer Vigil to follow at 7:00 PM at the church. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Mary was born on February 1, 1935 in Marysville, KS to Thomas and Margaret (O'Connell) Manhart. She grew up in Orleans, NE. After graduating high school and attending 1 year of college she taught in District 27 in a one room school. She returned to college and received her BA and MA in Education from Kearney State College. She taught for 1 year in Grant, NE prior to her marriage and then taught for 27 years in the Kearney Public Schools. She was married to Maynard D. Wichman on June 23, 1956 in Orleans, NE. After Maynard’s passing, she lived at Mount Carmel Home. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney, Kearney Education Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority. Mary and Maynard were well known for their hospitality and cooking. Survivors include sons, Chris and wife Teri of Kansas City, MO, John and wife, Christine of Shakopee, MN, daughters, Angela Ziemer and husband Tim of Gladstone MO, and Mary Johansen of Omaha, grandchildren, Abby and Allie Wichman of Shakopee, MN and Cindy Farrow of St. Louis, MO, great-grandchildren, Elliana Farrow, and Savanna Boll of Burns, OR, brother, Gene and Shelagh of Greeley, CO, sister, Kathryn of Aurora, NE, brother-in-law Ken Quigley of St Francis, KS and sister-in-law Joan of Grand Junction, CO and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007 and brothers, Thomas and Marie, Joe and Rosemary, and John, sister Margaret, and son-in-law Eric, brother-in-laws Ted Moritz and Everett and Florence Wichman.
