Matthew Stoltenberg, 55 of Kearney passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Inurnment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 30, with a Rosary/Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Matthew Charles Stoltenberg was born March 10, 1971 in St. Paul, NE to Raymond E. and JoAnn (Burke) Stoltenberg. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1989. After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Bogus in 1992 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Farwell, NE. Matt began his lifelong career at Kearney Equipment shortly after moving to Kearney as their office and parts manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and everything outdoors. Matt was an avid Kansas City Chief’s fan and always looked forward to cheering them on. He was a great cook and had a talent for smoking the best BBQ meat. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney and past member of the Knights of Columbus. Matt was blessed with a large family whom he loved dearly. His greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his wife Kathy, and their son, Raymond. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Stoltenberg of Kearney; son, Raymond Stoltenberg of Kearney; siblings, LeeAnn (Jim) Wehr of Arizona, Steve (Jan) Stoltenberg of Omaha, Scott (Joy) Stoltenberg of Morrill, NE, Lisa Wood of Papillion, NE, and Mitch (Lynda) Stoltenberg of Omaha; sister-in-law, Deb Stoltenberg of Port Angeles, WA; in-laws, Linda (Rod) Wells of Elba, Bob Bogus of Dannebrog, Jim (Linda) Bogus of Farwell, Carolyn (Doug) Kuta of St. Libory, Deb (Marvin) Ziola of Phillips, Ron (Steph) Bogus of Odessa, and Theresa (Tod) Brandt of Grand Island; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Matt was preceded in death by his daughter, Alizabeth M. Stoltenberg; his parents, Raymond and JoAnn Stoltenberg; brother, Stuart Stoltenberg; brother-in-law, Ron Wood; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Dorothy Bogus.
