Olivene D. Burman, 98 Formerly of Sumner Olivene D. Burman, 98, formerly of Sumner, died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Luke’s Care Center in Kearney. Funeral Services are 10:00 am Wednesday, march 22, 2017 at the United Church of Sumner. The Rev. Ken Hutson will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday and one hour prior to the service all at the United Church of Sumner. Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Sumner. Olivene DeLayne Miller Burman was born November 5, 1918 in Elm Creek, NE to Bert and Nora (Nelson) Miller. She attended Elm Creek High School and graduated in 1936. She later attended Kearney Normal School and taught elementary school for three years. While teaching at Lone Star School District, she met her future husband, Paul Burman. They were married on May 11, 1940. Being a housewife was her pride and joy. They lived on the family farm all their married life where she raised large vegetable and flower gardens. To this union, three children were born, Norman Douglas, Sandra Kay and Gary Emerson. Olivene raised and supplied lots of gladiola and iris flowers to churches and shut-ins in the community. Olivene and Paul were actively involved in the Evangelical Free Church in Sumner which later became the United Church of Sumner. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, and they were active in a group called the “Bereans.” She was also a lovely seamstress and knitted and crocheted and embroidered nearly 70 pairs of beautiful pillowcases. When Macular Degeneration destroyed her ability to do her handiwork, she enjoyed listening to Christian radio KJLT, learning from some of the well known pastors and teachers. She spent the last years and a half at the St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Home. She enjoyed the staff that so faithfully took care of her every need. Survivors include her daughter Sandra (Allen) Kelley of Amherst, NE and their children Angela (Todd) Johnson and children Alesha, Zachary and Micah of Blair, NE; Kent Kelley and friend Amy Lighthill of Florissant, CO and Andrea (Jeff) Kelley of Kearney; son Gary (Lynda) Burman of Sumner and their children Gary II (Cindy) of Sumner, Shelly (Dave) Westerholt and son Cadyn of Waterloo, NE, Kelsey (Trevor) Nichols and children Ashton and Tessa of Sumner, Justin Stolp and children Wyatt and Stetson of Cozad, Keeley Stolp and children Jaelyn and Brynlee of Riverdale; granddaughter Denise Burman of Bloomfield, NE; daughter-in-law Marcia Burman and children Tammi (Jesse) Stephenson of Las Vegas, NV and children Cydne, Noah, Ellyauna, Linay, Sympheny and Saege; Joe Miner of Sumner; nephews and nieces Douglas Miller, Shirley Hubbard, Mike Moles and Dolores Johns of Elm Creek, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Don Miller and sister Avis Moles; son Norman Douglas Burman and grandson Ronald Lee Burman.
